About The Photographer
Stephen has been writing and photographing sports for more than four years, but his love for sports has been a lifelong one. After graduating from York College with a BA in Speech Communications in 2005, he spent two years in the corporate world before making the decision to search out a career path that would be both rewarding and enjoyable. His chips landed in sports journalism.
Stephen spent more than a year as the Assistant Sports Editor at the York News Times, a six-day daily newspaper in York, Nebraska. His responsibilities included written and photographic coverage of 11 high schools and one college. After spending a year in the freelance photography business in Austin, Texas he accepted the Sports Editor position for the Highland Lakes News Group in Marble Falls, Texas where he currently runs the sports departments for three newspapers.
In his four years in the business Stephen has covered many high school teams, The Nebraska Cornhuskers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Kansas State Wildcats, Texas A&M Aggies, as well as dozens of other junior colleges. He has also covered multiple semi-pro football, baseball and soccer teams.
None of the last three years have gone by without Stephen’s hard work being recognized. In 2008 and 2009 he received awards for his writing and photography from the Nebraska Associated Press, and in 2010 he received photography and writing awards from the Texas Press Association and South Texas Press Association, and was honored by the Gulf Coast Press Association with first-place awards in feature photography, news photography, sports photography, and sports coverage.
